I’ve started a virtual investment market index of UK green publicly listed companies. I’m mostly doing this for fun: to play around with spreadsheets and as a way of keeping an eye on what the green industry is doing because I find that interesting.
Components
- only UK publicly listed companies
- only green/net zero investments (right now this mostly means energy)
- companies are added as I find out about them through various sources
Indexing approach
The ratio given to each company is based on the market capitalization of that company relative to the total market capitalization of all the companies in the index. I plan to update this once a month and change the ratios accordingly.

Tracker portfolio
For the purposes of tracking the evolution of the index, a portfolio of £10,000 is assumed, which is invested in the index according to the ratios. This will function as a “dividends reinvested” portfolio. That should make it easier to see the performance of the portfolio. I will be writing updates about the evolution of this £10,000 portfolio.
What I plan to write about
My goal with the blog is to document the current state and evolution of the index. I will do this by publishing a Trading212 pie and some sort of up to date portfolio, that’s maybe a spreadsheet. I also plan to write a blogpost every quarter with any updates to the index components.
